Hello again
I miss the blog and I miss my Corgi, so I thought I would come hang out here for a bit. Not sure why it's been a hard couple of days without Cosmo, but I have been missing him a lot. I think I need a good dog show/puppy fix to help ease the blues.
Matilda's growing and mobile. I don't post many pictures here because they attach so nicely to Facebook and you're all there, too! She is getting to be Miss Independence: she refuses to eat unless we let her feed herself (with spoons and forks), and she climbs on EVERYTHING. She also helps me feed the dogs (still "babas") twice a day and loves to play in the dog food. Last night I caught her feeding Lily kibble from a spoon. She also likes to put Lucky in his crate, and he actually submits to her and falls at her feet!
We're looking forward to a visit from Auntie Gail, Cousin Carolyn and Coal in a few weeks. Of course this means I have to get my master bathroom up and running- we still haven't repaired it since the wall caved in last winter. Our house is the money pit. We actually turned on The Money Pit, that 80's flick, today and Jeff made me turn it off because he said it was too depressing (well, M turned it off because she loves pressing buttons, but Jeff wouldn't turn it back on)! Our master shower tiles caved in, our hall bath wall seems to be shifting and the shower faucet leaks something fierce and is getting worse, and we've noticed hairline cracks everywhere, which means foundation issues. We're also without AC today because the motor went out, but that is covered by our home warranty so it's the least of our worries! I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember right now. Oh wait! Last week our master bath flooded, while the hall bath clogged and the hall shower wouldn't drain. We had a main line block and ended up with sewer water in our master bedroom. This house looked SO nice when we bought it, but it's been drama after drama. I don't know if we will buy in Texas ever again! Too much can go wrong.
Quinn will be a Senior this fall- so exciting! We're looking at colleges, and he will be doing Academic Decathlon. He's definitely had his moments of trying me, even as recently as last month, but he seems to be on a good streak right now and I hope it continues.
Also, I will be finishing my last year of undergrad this year! Woohoo! It seems like it's taken forever, but the end is in sight and I've even started looking at MBA programs so I can start that as soon as I graduate. I think an MBA will be a scary challenge, since it's so intense and I am not awesome at math, but I want to tackle it. It's such a well rounded degree. I found a distance program in the UK that I am going to apply for- it's a lot cheaper to go to a well ranked school there than to go to one here... about a quarter of the cost, in fact!
I am trying to figure out a program to get in shape, because I feel awful. It's too hot to get outside and go running, though I have been toying with the idea of getting some friends together for a Hood to Coast type race (I had a blast when I did Hood to Coast) that happens here in a few months and training for that. If you're on a team, then you can't be a couch potato and let people down. I would really love to get on an elliptical for the remainder of the summer to get in better shape first so I don't die, though. I found a place that rents them for about $50 a month so I am considering that. You can either rent to own or just rent for a couple months and be done with it. I used to be great about going to the gym, but I can't really do it with M. Jeff is out of town a lot so it's hard to get a consistent routine, and the gym childcare is pretty cost prohibitive (not to mention kind of nasty). I wouldn't give up my kid for the world, but taking care of myself used to be a whole lot easier!
Time to wind this down before M wakes up. She's still waking up several times a night. It's probably time to wean her- though it's good for her to nurse, and it's our bonding time. I think if I stayed home I wouldn't feel nearly as guilty about it, but any little bit of special time we can get together, I will take. So here I sit, waiting for her imminent call for me to come get her.

Coming to a dog show near you...
Is us! Someone give me the details on the Canby show (where, and ring times). We'll be in town next week. Can't wait to see you all.
PS: Nobody call Coal fat in front of my aunt. He's beautiful and it's muscle.

Missing Cosmo
We're having a rough dog year. Last night Cosmo was taken to the emergency vet with what I thought was an obstruction, but he ended up having a tumor on his spleen, which was filling his abdomen with blood. The prognosis was dismal, so we made him comfortable for the night, and brought him home to say our goodbyes. This morning he said goodbye to a tearful Quinn, his boy who he chose so long ago by nearly crawling into the pocket of the camo pants that matched him so perfectly. I wish we'd had more time so Quinn could have said better goodbyes. Then, in true Cosmo form, he patiently let the baby bury her head and kiss him even though he probably wasn't very comfortable. He perked up for Cheerios under the high chair, then we went for a nice romp at the neighborhood park before heading to the vet. He went very peacefully, though it did take a little longer than most. I don't think he wanted to go. I felt very at peace after he went, though, and I think his spirit was hanging around for a while. His body gave out and didn't give us the time we deserved with him. He would have been 7 this summer. This isn't at all what I was expecting.
He was meant to be ours from the start... and thank goodness that nut never dropped, so he was! I wish I could find some of the old pictures, especially the ones in the park where Carolyn and Tom met us on Quinn's birthday (a secret up until the last minute when the trunk popped open and out bounced that little Corgi).
The house feels pretty empty. Losing Cosmo is surreal. We should have had another 7 years with him. At what point do you sweep up the fluff, clean the smudge on the wall (where he would lay upside down and rub dirt), or move the kennel? I guess we'll play this one by ear.

Quinn can drive!
Today we got Quinn's permit! It's been an ordeal- he has had 2 name changes in his life so none of his documents match, and every time we went to the DPS they turned us away. Today we had our crap together, though (complete with certified name change docs from 2 different counties that we had to snail mail request) and we ALMOST got turned away again, but I stood firm and we got the permit. Quinn's not a bad driver, and we picked out a little 1998 Camry for him a few weeks ago. He goes in for his license on the 30th of this month. Watch out crazy Texas drivers!

Has Anyone Used...
The Furminator? For 60 bucks I need some honest reviews before I buy this thing. I'm neck deep in Cardi hair. Oh yeah... and Heeler hair.
